Most of his work is philosophy. It doesn't focus on sex so much as on the idea that humanity is essentially cruel, powermad, and hypocritical. If you read the dialogues of his characters, they go on and on about the corruption of The Church and greater society. And suffice it to say, writing about it is not the same thing as doing it. Because of this, I have no choice but to assume he would definitely not be a pornographer. Porn is all about displaying debauchery - while Sade was all about analyzing it, and making the case that amoral sleaze is the natural state of Mankind.

Because of this, he would also not be a friend to the liberal mindset of today that promotes tolerance of different races/lifestyles/etc. Sade had no interest in tolerance whatsoever. If you're weaker, lower down on the social foodchain for whatever reason, you deserve to be exploited, raped, tortured, and destroyed. Might Makes Right was Sade's credo, and his primary argument was that it's Mankind's (along with nature's) credo, as well.

If he were alive today, he'd still be a writer, and he'd be reviled by the alternative community.

I think you all might be going in the wrong direction. Marquis was about pushing the limits, not just fucking, porn, and bla bla bla. ha was about saying, "listen up shit faces, you can't hate, because a part of you is thinking about what i said." So when it comes to what Marquis would be ... he would be writer. What else would he do ... if he did anything with sex it would be in his house or in his mind and we would only know about it because he would write about it.

He would be disappointed, by the lack of insight most of this tribe has into his writings.
