V for Vendetta

I thought the relationship between the two main characters was very libertine-like. I fell in love with V's character...so cruel to his "lover" in making her see the light. A must-see movie. Any other thoughts out there?

  • I have read many reports about this movie from fans of the comic book of the same name.
Some of these people claim the comic book was 'better', but isn't the book usually better than the movie?
I also enjoyed the movie. It is an interesting point you bring up about 'V's interrogation of his lover.
  • this is very interesting but the "sadism" described here for the enlightnement of the "bottom" in this case is not what de Sade meant, at least not in Justine. the sadists in this story care nothing for the enlightenment of their victims. V contains this kind of sadism but it is demonstrated in the doctors disregard for the patients at the clinic out of which V was born. and it is this sadism that i think de sade would have exploited if he had written V. perhaps having the doctors violate the patients sexually would work during the victorian times. perhaps today de Sade would have written it in a similar light as it was written- in a Foucauldian sense exploiting the power relationships between doctor and patient through the insitutions of the hosipital instead of the church?
